Attention Restoration • Cognitive Science

A clearing
for your attention.

Enter a living, procedural micro-environment. Measure what it restores using precise cognitive probes. Your data stays yours until you choose to gift it to a public map of human recovery.

1 — Measure

Sustained Attention Probe

Task: Watch the digits. Press SPACE for every number except 3.

Do this as consistently as possible. The task is deliberately boring — that is the point.

  • ~180 trials, ~5–6 minutes total per probe
  • We measure commission errors and reaction time variability (mind-wandering)
  • Do a baseline first, then enter a clearing, then a recovery probe
Press Begin above.
Stay present. Breathe normally.
2 — Restore

Enter the Clearing

Procedural micro-environments designed around the four properties of Attention Restoration Theory.

Canopy
Soft fascination • Extent
Dappled light through moving leaves. Slow coherent sway. High spatial frequency detail that invites effortless following.
Most people report the strongest “being away” here.
Ripples
Soft fascination • Compatibility
Gentle water surface with overlapping low-frequency waves. Quiet, rhythmic, deeply compatible with a wandering gaze.
Excellent for recovering after high cognitive load.
Meadow
Extent • Being Away
Wind moving through grass. Occasional small life. Broad, coherent space with slow, large-scale motion.
Strong “extent” — you can get lost in it.
3 — Reflect

Your Lumen

Sessions completed
Average restoration (Δ CV)
lower is better (less mind-wandering after)
Your strongest restorer
Restoration history
Your sessions will appear here after you complete at least one full baseline → clearing → recovery cycle.
All numbers and raw trial timings are computed and stored locally in your browser first. Contribute to the Commons only when you want to add your signature to the collective map.
4 — Gift (optional)

Contribute to the Attention Commons

When you choose to contribute, only numbers (your deltas, ratings, scene parameters) and an optional short reflection are sent. Your device key is an opaque random string. Nothing identifies you.

The Commons

What restores us, together. Only data people explicitly chose to share.

Scene family averages (public data)
Resonant reflections (people who felt similar things)
Run at least one session with a public reflection to see personalized resonances here.
